The best part about being a writer is that you are only limited by your imagination. The worst part about being a writer is…you are only limited by your imagination. So many times I have felt inspired to write on a topic only to find when I sit down to write the excitement is deflated. I will start to feel like what I was writing really wasn’t that interesting or innovative. After all, isn’t that why we write, to bring something new to the discussion of what this is all about?
It reminds me of one of my favorite comedians, rest his soul, Mitch Hedberg. He had a bit where he said he was a lazy comedian. If he had a good idea for a joke and the pen and paper were across the room, he had to convince himself that what he had to write down wasn’t funny.
I feel that way a lot of the time. With staying at home and raising my son, I often feel inspired at times when I can’t drop everything and write it down. So I have to convince myself that what I had to write wasn’t interesting. Is that laziness or a good sense of priorities?
